Zoo lights

The other week we went to our zoo at night for Zoo lights. They had quite a few different lights set up to see. Some parts of the zoo were off limits, but most we could see quite well. I wanted a family picture but it would not have turned out so well, so here are the pictures we did take.

It was a chilly night even though we were there around 5pm. The temp was in the low 30s which is kind of cold for just sitting like Seth had to do. We did warm up in the reptile building; that helped quite a bit.

They had all kinds of displays like this one. The spider has his web and catches a fly, then goes and eats it. Kind of cool to see it all in motion. They also had one for the elephants, but I couldn't get those to post. We walked thru the Hippos' mouth, that was pretty neat.

We had a good time despite the cold, Seth was all eyes and ears. We are glad we went right after they opened it for the night as when we left there were flocks of people entering and not a close parking space in sight!

Oranges!

The other day while in the grocery store they had samples of oranges in the fruit dept cut up with the peeling on. So, I picked one up for Seth. I did not imagine the joy that one little thing caused. I have since done this at home, Seth goes bezerk!

They are pretty yummy, mom, you can give them to me anytime!!

Sledding

Today we went sledding at a hill in a park Jason knew about. It was a good sledding hill. I had to brush up on steering a sled, I haven't done it since I was a kid. Seth had a blast, the hill was long, and we all had a good time.

Ready to go down the hill!

Jason pulling Seth up the hill in the sled. That was the hardest part!!

Seth had to be a part of the action, he pulled the sled very nicely, but didn't always stay on the path but wanted to go in deeper snow.

Going up the hill with Seth in the sled on his stomache, that was really fun!! We wore out the kid, he was in bed by 7:30 tonight!!

Ready to go play in the snow

Seth loves to go and play out in the snow with whoever will go with him. We have had to get him all bundled up to go b/c it has not been so warm around here lately. But, given from his smiles, I think it is well worth all the extra work.

The other weekend, Seth and Jason went out to play in the snow and built a fort and a snowman, that was pretty good b/c we didn't have that much snow outside at the time.

I'm going out again mom, see you later! We will have to brush up on our skills to play in the snow, b/c this little one sure likes it. And, we get our exercise too!!
The end of this year has been particularly difficult for us as we went through a miscarriage. I have found some beauty though despite all the pain and grief. My Christmas cactus did not bloom last year, but this year it can't stop blooming. I counted about 8 buds on there, most have already come and gone, but there are still a couple left. But, I took some pictures as they were just so pretty.

I have enjoyed it and hope you do too.

Trip to Washington

We went to visit my parents who were in Mt Vernon, WA on an interim pastor position the first weekend of December and got to see some sights. Seth went on a plane and boat for the first time on this trip, pretty exciting for someone so young.
Leaving the dock to go to the San Juan islands.

The entry and exit for cars coming off/on the ferry.

We went to Friday Harbor, on the San Juans. We hadn't been there before b/c we did not have time when we were there in 2006. It was nice to see this once.

Seth had a long day and on the ferry ride back he fell asleep on grandpa's lap. He NEVER does that, so he was pretty tired. He stayed asleep pretty much the whole way back to the car too.

Vacation in Colorado

I know it's been forever since I updated this, but I haven't had much time and our camera and computer are not cooperating. I know it's no excuse, but it's all I have for now.... Anyway, here are some pictures from our trip to the high country at the end of Sept. We went down to Durango, then up thru Ouray, Telluride and Gd Junction, then home again. It was a good trip and we saw lots of color, which was the point of the trip. Enjoy the pictures!!

Our little munchkin waiting for supper to arrive in Pagosa Springs

This is in Mesa Verde Park. It is a huge park and we didn't get to see nearly all of it, but it was cool to see all the cliff dwellings the Indians lived in so many years ago.

This is driving up to Mesa Verde, the mesas are pretty cool to me, I like them alot.

A lot of shrubbery down in the southwest corner of the state, it changes color along with the Aspens, so while it is not as spectacular, it is pretty in it's own way. We saw oranges, yellows, and reds too.

The sandbox

A couple weeks ago Jason decided to get Seth a sandbox. We have had sandbox toys for a while but no sandbox to play with them in. Jason got one that has a cover over it so it doesn't get rained on. The first time Seth was in there he was much more interested in throwing the sand around than playing with his toys in there. He's since gotten better at playing with his toys and having all sorts of fun. It helps me out when I'm in the back yard and wanting to accomplish things, he is occupied with that at that time.
The sandbox is in the shape of a turtle, it is pretty cute!
Dad also enjoyed getting his feet in the sand. Now, if only we could have an ocean nearby...

Seth gets terribly dirty when he's in the sandbox, but it is just sand, so it could be worse. He likes it and that is all that matters.

The bag man

Seth loves to play with anything that makes noise, and he really likes to make pom poms out of certain things. I had to get rid of some of our extra plastic bags and so bagged them up, he thought this was great fun to just play with them and throw them around. He loves this sort of thing, who knew they could be such a cheap toy?

He seems to really be concentrating in this picture, I'm not sure on what exactly though.

His first steps

Seth has finally started walking on his own!! Hallelujah! I don't have to carry him around as much anymore. Once Seth started walking and figuring it out he just took off. My arms are getting a well deserved rest!
It was hard at first to get Seth on camera doing his steps, but it has since gotten much easier.
Here, he's trying to get up from his feet without holding onto something for support. He didn't quite make it, but he now routinely does this.

The wagon

We finally broke out the wagon for Seth recently. He can sit up in it quite well, but he still wants to move around and we don't want him to fall out, so we are being very careful right now.
Seth seems to like the ride. We tried to make it a bit softer with the blankets, but they don't stay in one place for very long.
Seth also likes to push things around and the wagon was no exception. It helps him work on his walking skills too!

Garden of the gods

Over the 4th of July this year we went to CO Springs for one night. One of the first things we did was tour Garden of the gods. Seth's shoes are still stained with the red rock stuff he played in while we were there. He had lots of fun messing around in the rocks, etc.

Such a happy boy!

A few favorites

Seth has really taken to having very different facial expressions lately. I have captured some of them on the camera, here's a few of my favorites.

This was after one of his first experiences with chocolate pudding. He loved to eat it but also loved to play with it!

Uh Oh!!! What did I do mom??? My precious boy!

The straw hat

We had a straw hat down here and Seth wanted to play with it. I put it on his head and this is what he did...

He seemed to wonder at first what it was, but then he had a grand time playing with that hat!

Now he is showing off for the camera...

"Playing" trumpet

Jason took out his trumpet recently to practice for some songs he was playing in church. Seth was all over that and of course wanted to "play" too. Although, he may have just wanted to play with the mouthpiece, because whenever Jason put it to his lips Seth pulled it away!

Here it does appear that Seth is playing the trumpet. I don't think any sound came out though!

New cheap toy!

We have been frequenting garage sales this spring and have found quite a few toys for Seth. Some of them are older toys we both played with as kids that you can't buy in stores anymore. The one pictured here Seth absolutely went crazy over the first time we gave it to him. He has since enjoyed it lots.

There have been lots of laughs with this toy. It is really nothing special in my book, but if Seth likes it, it is well worth the 25 cents we paid for it!!!

The shed

I know this blog is about Seth, but wanted to share these pictures too. Jason is currently building a shed in our back yard, a much needed thing since we have very limited garage space. He started a couple Saturdays ago, but since it has gotten rained on quite a bit so he hasn't made as much progress as he would have liked by this time. I think the shed looks great.
Wall #1 is up!!

The first wall we decided to put the siding on before placing the wall verticle because it would be harder to paint once it was up. So, we painted it too, it did not take long.

Just to show, I did help out a little, even if I couldn't do all the construction stuff that Jason has done. Painting is fun when you only have a little to do at a time.
